List of airlines of India




As of 30 October 2007 the total fleet size of commercial airlines in India was 439. In 1994 the Air Corporation Act of 1953 was repealed with a view to remove monopoly of air corporations on scheduled services, enable private airlines to operate scheduled service, convert Indian Airlines and Air India to limited company and enable private participation in the national carriers.However, beginning 1990 private airline companies were allowed to operate air taxi services, resulting in the establishment of Jet Airways and Air Sahara. These changes in the Indian aviation policies resulted in the increase of the share of private airline operators in domestic passenger carriage to 68.5% in 2005 from 0.4 of 1991.






Air India and Indian Airlines


Air India (Hindi: एअर इंडिया) is a state-owned flag carrier, the oldest and the largest airline of India. It is a part of the Indian government-owned Air India Limited (AIL) which is renamed as Air India Ltd. The airline operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Its corporate office is located at the Air India Building at Nariman Point in South Mumbai. It is the 16th largest airline in Asia[dubious – discuss]. Air India has two major domestic hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. An international hub at Dubai International Airport is currently being planned.
Star Alliance announced on 13 December 2007 that it had invited Air India to join as a member and it is expected to become a member by 31 July

Jet Airways is a major Indian airline based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is India's largest airline and the market leader in the domestic sector. It operates over 400 flights daily to 67 destinations worldwide. Its main hub is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, with secondary hubs at Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkatta. It has an international hub at Brussels Airport, Belgium. Jet Airways is owned by Naresh Goyal.




Kingfisher Airlines


Kingfisher Airlines  is an airline group based in India. Its head office is Kingfisher House in Vile Parle (East), Mumbai.Kingfisher Airlines, through its parent company United Breweries Group, has a 50% stake in low-cost carrier Kingfisher Red.
Kingfisher Airlines is one of the seven airlines to be ranked as a 5-star airline by the independent research consultancy firm Skytrax. Kingfisher operates more than 375 daily flights to 71 destinations, with regional and long-haul international services. In May 2009, Kingfisher Airlines carried more than a million passengers, giving it the highest market share among airlines in India.
Kingfisher Airlines is also the sponsor of F1 racing outfit, Force India, which Vijay Mallya also owns




IndiGo


Indigo Airways, since its inception in the year 2006 has come a long way. It is a subsidiary of the Gurgaon based InterGlobe Enterprises Limited jointly managing it with former US Airways chief Rakesh Gangwal. It has primarily focused on the Budget carrier segment in India . Due to its very well principled policies and transparent features, a solid brand name has been made for Indigo Airways. Recently Indigo Airlines has been planning to increase its capacity greatly and has placed the largest ever aircraft by any Indian firm when it placed an order of 100 Airbus A320s at the Paris Air Show. The deal is worth 6.5 Billion dollars and clearly shows Indigo Airline's Intentions for the long run.




SpiceJet


piceJet is a low-cost airline headquartered in Gurgaon, India. It began service in May 2005 and by 2008, it was India's second-largest low-cost airline in terms of market share. SpiceJet was voted as the best low-cost airline in South Asia and Central Asia region by Skytrax in 2007


GoAir


GoAir is an Indian low-cost airline based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It operates domestic passenger services to 18 cities with 131 daily flights and approximately 917 weekly flights. Its main base is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai.
It is owned by Jehangir Wadia, the great-grandson of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founding father of Pakistan


Paramount Airways


Paramount Airways was an airline based in Chennai, India, it was a national licensed airline. It operated scheduled services, mainly targeting business travellers. Its hub was Chennai International Airport. It was the first airline in India to launch the New Generation Embraer 170/190 Family series aircraft.
